Why I'm Running
I’m running because the people who build and sustain our county deserve a voice at the table, someone who understands hard work, has lived the challenges our communities face, and will fight for what’s right.I’m running to end wage theft, because taxpayers shouldn’t have to foot the bill for those who cheat the system.
I’m running to expand access to pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs, and to ensure our veterans, first responders, and First Nations have pathways to success.
As a union carpenter, mother, and advocate, I’ve spent more than two decades fighting for real opportunity, accessible education, and safer, stronger communities. I know what it’s like to start with a GED, lace up your work boots, and build something better, for your family and for your neighbors. That experience fuels my commitment to action, accountability, and long-term change.I am reliable, driven, and grounded in integrity.

I will fight, for you, for our future, and for the county we all call home.
Meet
Marianna Hyke
Proud Union Pile Driver.
Community Advocate.
Champion for Working People.
Marianna Hyke is a proud union carpenter with Local 196 Pile Drivers & Divers and a lifelong advocate for working families, women in the trades, youth, and community. A resident of Puyallup since 2003, Marianna has spent over two decades opening doors to opportunity through job access, education, and the defense of labor and workers’ rights.
Marianna’s roots in District 2 run deep. From her early days working at Fred’s Strawberry Cannery and making the beloved Duris elephant ears at the Puyallup Fair, to raising her four children, now students and graduates of Brouillet Elementary, Aylen Junior High, Rogers High School, and Puyallup High School, Marianna's life is grounded in the community she serves. Her husband, Ryan Hyke, is also a Pile Driver and respected local leader who shares her unwavering commitment to equity and service.
Currently, Marianna serves as the Political Coordinator for the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters, where she champions strong labor standards, apprenticeship utilization, and public policies that build community wealth and support working people.
For over 15 years, Marianna led apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship initiatives for the Carpenters. She secured state and federal grants, managed a multi-million dollar department, developed curriculum, and collaborated with public agencies and community organizations. Her work created transformative career pathways for youth, veterans, justice-involved individuals, and local residents, helping them access family-wage careers in the skilled trades.
She graduated early with a GED, earned her Associate in Nursing and pursued a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, embodying her belief in the power of hard work, education, and careers that uplift families.
Now, she is ready to bring that same passion, grit, and leadership to public service, to stand up for workers, protect our communities, and ensure our tax dollars build a stronger Pierce County.
